I have been stuck on this topic in my personal study for the last year. This morning I was listening to Brian Tracy's Success Mastery Academy and he mentioned the quote above. He said that Emerson found this quote on a piece of paper that he found while walking down the street as a child. This quote lead him most of his life.
God has really be dealing with me about this. I have felt like Paul many times as I don't do the things I want to do and yet I find myself doing what I don't want to. I understand the frustration that comes for know in your head what must be done and doing many things that are the polar opposite of it.
Much of my time has been spent learning the principles of success that I think I should be further along on my own path. My career has included partnering with people in the pursuit of their personal success. As a minister, trainer, and coach I have helped some great people formulate visions, clarify values, set goals, and execute action plans. However I haven't achieved what I had planned to.

What Does God Say?

God clearly has a design for you life. Are you ready for it? Have you done what God has asked of you? This is where things start to unravel in my walk. I am good at listening to God and walking on faith when the road is unclear. However as things became clearer I tend to run ahead. I ignored God's clear warnings and directions and my progress shows it. God's plan will come true but the timeframe can sometimes be slowed by my foolishness.
I think I am going to spend some time talking about this topic. God has given me some new ideas on excellent and the intentional pursuit of all. My next posting will deal with one of the greatest obstacles to excellence...

God's Man | Portrait of a Godly Man
