Roaring Lion...

The Word Says,
Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
When was the last time you heard a lion roar? Whether it was at the zoo, at a wildlife preserve, or like my Pastor, on the plains in Africa a lions roar is very distinctive. I mean it is such a sign of power that MGM Studios has been using it to announce the start of their movies forever. The lion's roar is a symbol of power. It is his announcement of authority and a warning to all those within his voice. There is one thing that the lions roar is never... Quiet!

I've been reading a book by Dr. C. Thomas Anderson, called Becoming a Millionaire God's Way, in it he talks about how we become brain dead throughout the day. He talks about how our minds can sometimes go on autopilot and ignore new information until it is too late. I have told my wife this on many occasions. Often our minds shut down when we do things that are routine. This is both a good an bad thing.

When I was taking martial arts we practiced forms, called katas, which were combinations of moves strung together. Through intense practice these moves became a part of your technique when you sparred with someone. We called it muscle memory. Miyamoto Mushashi, one of Japan's greatest swordsman, described how he would let go during a fight and let his technique come without thinking.

In our thoughts, however, we need to be aware of what taking place. The devil is constantly roaring out lies and deception while looking to see who is not paying attention. If we are not careful in our thoughts he can get us to revert to the world's way of thinking. When that happens we enter his territory and he takes us.
Never fight the devil on his terms. In military strategy you'd learn to always pick your battles.

Choose the Location!
Your location should always be in the presence of God. We forget sometimes that God is always with us. He's in the church building, in our cars, even on our jobs. If you take God with you than you will always be in a good position to fight.

Get the High-Ground!
When we talk about the high ground we usually mean being above the enemy. In this context let the high ground be standing on a firm foundation. You need to be ready to counter what the enemy is telling you. When Jesus was being tempted in the wilderness by the devil he attacked him using scripture.
Then the devil took Him up into the Holy city; set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, "If you are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: 'He shall give His angels charge over you,' and 'In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone' " -Matthew 4:5-6
Jesus knew that, "Psalm 91 spoke of God's protection against the attacks of the enemy. It was not a license to do something foolish like jump off a building just to prove a point."

Get Ready!

The bible says that we should put on the "Whole Armor of God". It also refers to itself as the "Sword of the Spirit". Make sure that you weapons are primed and that your armor is in place. We must always be ready. The devil is going out of His way to stop us from enjoying God's promises. Our minds need to be on alert. Our foundations need to be set. Our weapons need to be ready. Most of all we need to recognize God in the midst of our storm and give Him the praise he deserves.
